Random Post 2: CorePower Yoga
For my random post, I wanted to write about one of my favorite hobbies and forms of working out. Every day, I attend a CorePower Yoga class at the USC Village location. I wake up to my alarm set for 7:45, get dressed, and grab my yoga mat and towel to leave my apartment, and walk over to the village. The morning streets of Figueroa are always quiet and I put on my headphones to get in the zone for my workout. Although the class is at 8:30, I prefer getting there at least 15 minutes early to put my mat in my favorite spot (next to the instructor) and the lay down before the crowd comes in. Despite the early hour, each CorePower class is often filled to the max and I have to book my classes weeks in advance.
What is CorePower? CorePower Yoga is a yoga studio chain that offers a variety of yoga-based workout classes, including vinyasa and yoga sculpt. All classes are heated set to around 92 degrees but build in heat as the workout progresses. All classes are suitable for customers of all levels of yoga whether you are a beginner or a master yogi. CorePower also has an app and website platform that allows its users to stream pre-recorded or live classes from their homes, included with membership.
My favorite class--which I do every day-- is the Yoga Sculpt class. This is the most popular class among USC students as it combines yoga with strength training exercises. Yogis grab 2 sets of weights (a light set and a heavier set) to use through yoga poses and sculpt strength series. The class feels more like a pilates-based workout than a yoga class as it includes a cardio series as well as weighted training exercises like lunges, bicep curls, squats, etc. I find these classes have helped build my strength, improve my flexibility immensely, and have even increased my endurance.
Yoga Sculpt is my favorite way to get my day started each morning. The heated studios help me sweat out all my toxins and I feel cleansed after each session. Another one of my favorite forms of group workouts is SoulCycle. Since there are none nearby campus and I do not have a car, CorePower has become my replacement. They both are similar in the sense that their workouts are designed to challenge and strengthen both the body and the mind. Although I enjoy the physical benefits, CorePower really serves as my stress relief. The high-intensity workout helps me release endorphins and fill my mind with positive affirmations from the motivational instructors that help build self-confidence and a positive mindset. Lastly, I really enjoy the community I have built at CorePower. I have gotten very close with many of the instructors and familiar faces who are also regulars at the classes.
I am flying home this weekend for Easter and am already excited to return to my 8:30 am Yoga Sculpt session on Monday morning. :)
Hi Ava!
ReplyDeleteWow, CorePower sounds so cool! I have a yoga mat and I do my own exercises in my room, but I haven't been to a class with a trainer in so long. I should definitely look into CorePower since it's so close to campus. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Ava,
ReplyDeleteI tried CorePower this summer but could not keep up so I am very impressed with your dedication! It sounds like a great way to start your days and organize your life though. I might have to pick it up again and join you for a YogaSculpt class. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi Ava,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post about yoga! I tried a CorePower yoga class with my sister before and really enjoyed it. I did a few more after that since I signed up for the free week trial and it was a great experience. Yoga is such an amazing form of exercise and it is so good for the mental side of things as well. I love the pliability/flexibility aspect of yoga because that's essential for the longevity of your body.
Hi Ava,
ReplyDeleteI recently started going to CorePower and I loved it. I can relate with you on how it can become a stress relief. I've found myself coming out of the classes more motivated and relaxed. Mentally and physically it made me feel so good! I would totally recommend for everyone to attend!
Hi Ava, it's impressive that you actually hold yourself to a routine that starts at 7:45am with yoga. I get annoyed when my alarm wakes me up before 9am somedays :). I think starting your day with Yoga Sculpt everyday as a source of a clean start is something that resonates with me as I use a morning walk or run to do the same thing.
